german village: first gentrified neighborhood?

German Village, in Columbus, Ohio, may be the first neighborhood to have been gentrified in the 1960s.  The neighborhood does use historic, and very restrictive, zoning to preserve the original character of the neighborhood; and like many neighborhoods that have followed the same course, is now priced out of range for most people.  One man was responsible for stopping the bulldozing of his neighborhood, and halting the shift to slumlord ownership within German Village.  You can watch the whole story of German Village here.
